The first teaching, on June 19th, was an introduction to karma and emptiness, using a pen and a 100-yuan note as props to demonstrate how you create your world. The time was too short to go into much detail about how to change your karma, so the lamas settled on teaching about the two simplest ways.

How to succeed and save the world at the same time. Geshe Michael and Lama Christie said that in order to run a company you need three things: harmony among the workers and boss, creativity to come up with new ideas, and most important--profitability. All of these come from the seeds you plant in your mind. The seed for creativity comes from being happy when others get good ideas, and the seed for profit comes from giving money to those who need it. After you plant the seeds though, you need to nurture them to make them grow fast. You do that in the who, the what, the when and the how of the way you perform the actions. In the end, it all boils down to how we care for others.

Even the most highly qualified executives in business have challenges at work. How should we meet these challenges and create the causes that keep our careers exciting and long lasting? All our thoughts and actions create imprints in our mind called "karmas." The best way to advance in our career and life is to understand the basic principal of Karmic Management and train our minds to do "the right thing." In the lecture Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christie McNally teach us how to successful in business.

"...Problems themselves are the highest opportunity we can ever have. If things go well all the time, says the ancient wisdom of Tibet, it's the worst thing that can happen. This is because we never question why things are really happening to us as long as things are good. ....It takes trouble for us to think about where things are really coming from. Nothing is more sad, nothing is a greater problem waiting to happen, than a company or executive who has become complacent, who has had success too long, too steadily..." — Geshe Michael Roach, The Diamond Cutter
